I try not to buy too much stuff that will just sit around the house...either it is used or I get rid of it

We have been re-organizing and razing the entire house. Only the kitchen has been done but the rest shan't be spared.

I try to donate clothes and books reguarly. At least I thought I did it regularly--a few weeks ago I donated 13 garbage bags of clothes! Yikes!

I'm on a cleaning rampage lately - donating as much as I can to groups like the American Kidney Foundation. I'm working from the basement up... which means the fiber room is last. :-)

I'm actually trying to simplify my life as it is. I'm trying not to buy any new clothes for at least the next few months...if I can last a year, go me!

I'm also trying to eat out less even if it means eating less than stellar meals that I've prepared.

I'm trying to not put off things I need to do so that they aren't backing-up on me and adding stress. It keeps things way simpler because it takes a lot less time AND less stress is definitely helpful in that arena!

I have been trying to do 2 - 3 "15 min cleaning sessions" a day to prevent marathon cleaning sessions. I draw a task from a box, set my timer and get as much done as possible in 15 min.

For the next year and a half, I am not buying any yarn (gasp!), but am working completely out of stash!

I keep things as simple as I can by just prioritizing! Forget the little things, they can wait.

I am working on acknowledging my limitations and saying "no." I have a tendency to take on too much or agree to do things I really don't want to do because I hate to disappoint people.

I try to re-use and re-purpose when possible and have tried to cut back on a lot of non-essential purchases (and yes, anything knitting-related is definitely essential!). We've been able to declutter much of the house this past year and I am focused this year on reducing paper clutter.

It seems like nothing has been simple lately, but I'm trying to get things better organized and streamlined at home to help simplify things.

I'm trying to reduce the clutter around the house and prevent it from building up to its previous levels.

I'm also commited to cooking more at home and eating fewer processed prepared foods and restaurant/take out meals in place of things I can just as easily (and much more affordably) make myself. I truly enjoy cooking and I should do more of it.

The only thing I'm really trying to do to simplify is eating through my freezer instead of stopping at the store and buying something quick. I really want to get a handle on my needles so I have a brand new circ organizer I'm hoping will do the trick.

I try to keep organized. By that I mean things have their place. I try to de-clutter the house once a season. Give away clothes, sell books. Still don't know what to do with all the CDs I have accumulated.

I try not to buy things I don't need and periodically go through the house to donate things I don't need any more. I also hate piles and make sure everything has a place in our 1-bedroom where it fits without looking like clutter.

irunnaked here, how do I keep things simple in my life? I guess I go by routine. If I don't have a routine, it doesn't get done.

I have no idea how to keep things simple. Were not very organized around here at the moment. Try to throw out more? I don't know...I got nothin' here lol

I take time to have my daily coffee and knitting so I don't go crazy. Life may not be simple, but that moment of peace is.

To keep things simple, each family member has his/her own daily chores, which are diligently tackled in 15 minutes before breakfast and 15 minutes after dinner. Collectively, it adds up to two whole hours of chore time a day and the house remains manageable!

What do I do to keep things simple? Well, honestly, I am not very good at it...lol But, I am trying. I have started writing important things on both the kitchen and my pocket calendar...even the simplest things like if/when I send in $$ for a certain day's hot lunch at school. Right now I am trying to get things organized around the house. It will be a long process, but I'm trying to do a bit at a time.

I use a calendar to schedule my day. If its not on there I'm not responsible for it. So that takes a ton of stress off me.

Well, ironically, our attempt at creating a more simple, close to nature life, is anything but simple right now. We have a small house that is (still) in the middle of a major rehab on three acres. We have chickens and will hopefully have a garden in this spring. But whenever I get frustrated at the slow pace of the work on the house I go for a walk in the bio-reserve which borders our property and I remember why we did all this in the first place!

Saucy said...

I just practice "letting go". Also, I do the "if I haven't used it in X amount of time, then I must not need it" rule when it comes time to spring (or other) cleaning.

I am trying to get things simplified after a crazy year with a baby! I have started writing everything down in a master planner, and keeping track of to do items in a list. I am also trying to get rid of the things we don't need. If it has sat in a box for a few years without being needed, it can probably go!

I decluttered my house and all closets many years ago and have kept up with it every year so it is still decluttered.

chicagopurl said...

The simple life is becoming our motto in our home. Since I had to move (thank God), I have gotten rid of things I really didn't need or have too much of. Donating a lot of clothes and housewares, books even...I make lists of just about everything and that is helping also. Our place seems smaller now but I'm so much happier than I've been in awhile with this new place. I am also learning how NOT to stress and worry about everything, and that is helping soooo much.

peachykath said...

This year I'm trying to simplify everything around me. Making to-do lists and shopping lists and not getting anything I don't really need and using what I have already. Going through closets and donating is what I'm going through now!

At work I have gotten rid of my "inbox"...everything is dealt with as it comes in or delegated to someone else! At home....well that has not been quite as easy :)

Simple isn't something that comes easy for me, but I have been trying to use what I have instead of impulsively buying more, be it yarn, cross stitch supplies, scrapbook supplies or books. I quite honestly have much more than I can possibly use already. One thing I have done is donate books, movies and CDs to a local crime prevention sale that occurs during the month of June. I then go to the sale and pick up all the reading material I need for the next year. At $1 a book you can't go wrong! When I'm done, I just re-donate the book.

Hmm - what I do to keep things simple in my life? I tend to stop and try to think about what we need versus want in life, and do a check every now and again to see if I'm meeting my own goals for my life, and try to get there as directly as I can.
In day to day life though, I like to make sure if I bring something into the house, something is going out. Like a new book means donating a few to the library. A clothes purge for new clothes, or going through our closets and stored items a room at a time every year for what we can feasibly stand to get rid of. I like to make meals in advance and freeze them so we can pop something in on the go. I volunteer to remember how lucky I am, I run my dogs and am glad to know I can and be healthy.

Lately I stopped buying yarn because I have so much stash and am instead trading for what I want, or using Paypal balance to cover something versus paying from my card or whatever. It's working really well! It's a nice feeling too.

I guess the only other thing I do to keep it simple is - enjoy the little things and if I'm getting stressed, take a breather to read a book, relax in a bath, try to get some higher ground to get an objective view on things. Mostly it's stuff I can't do anything about, and being a worrywart lately I've been saying "Ok, what will worrying accomplish here?" - if nothing, I try to drop it.

Works for me :)
